History of SCAA

Southern Chesapeake Athletic Association (SCAA) is a 501c3 non-profit organization that was founded in 1961 as Great Bridge Baseball Inc. We have grown to become the largest youth baseball and youth softball organization in Hampton Roads.  We are a non-profit baseball and softball organization, and an average of over 1,200 boys and girls play ball at SCAA each spring & fall seasons. We are truly proud of the baseball and softball programs at SCAA - it not only teaches players the principles of baseball and softball, but also emphasizes teamwork, self-discipline, and leadership skills.

We Are a Pony Sanctioned League. PONY is an acronym, which stands for Protect Our Nation’s Youth. PONY Baseball and Softball are dedicated to creating a safety first/ fundamentally sound and challenging game for children of all ages. With field sizes and dimensions best suited to appropriate age play and rules designed to allow each charter their own ability to create the best style of baseball and softball tailored to your own community’s needs. PONY also takes it a step further requiring children to participate in divisions with kids of the same age.  For more information, visit www.pony.org.

SCAA has Spring and Fall seasons for Tee Ball, Baseball, & Softball.  Fall Ball is our "instructional" season, allowing for players to develop skills needed for the Spring season.  Spring season is our competitive season with end-of-season tournaments in most divisions, as well as All-Star Team formations.

In addition to All-Stars, SCAA is home to multiple Sunday Select and Travel Teams for both softball and baseball across multiple age groups. Our Baseball Teams are known as the "Thunder". Our Softball Travel Teams are known as the "Lightning".  Our Softball Sunday Select Teams are known as the "Riot".

Our 15-field Complex in the Hickory section of Chesapeake also hosts multiple tournaments and baseball & softball clinics in addition to to our Rec, Select, & Travel programs.

Your support is making it possible to continue this great program to reach further generations. As former players and current coaches and parents, we thank you!
