Baseball Age Structure Changes

Earlier this year PONY (our parent organization) implemented a new age structure for tee ball and baseball. They changed the age cut-off date from April 30, extending it out four months to August 31. The cut-off date is used to determine which division your child will play in, and all of the divisions from Pinto up have a two-year age cycle (Shetland/Tee Ball has 3 years).

This past spring SCAA chose to use the spring season as a transitional adjustment period and gave parents the option to chose to play under either the old or new age structure. However, this fall we are fully implementing the new age structure, as we have to make a full transition at some point. With the fall being the time when applicable players move up in division, and it being more of a learning (less competitive) season, this is the best time to make this transition, making the adjustment much easier in the spring.

Please refer to the following chart to assess where your child will be placed. Find their birth year and month, and refer to the left hand column to determine which division your child will play in. SCAA’s registration is already set up to automatically choose the division based on birth date. Please be aware that parents may be asked to provide birth certificates upon request.

This age structure does not affect softball, as that age structure remains unchanged.
